Differently from Tesla, Afeela 1’s booking deposit is fully refundable.

For the Signature model, it might be had in Tidal Grey, Calm White, and Core Black colours, while the customers can opt to have the inside in either Black or Grey colour. On the other hand, the Origin variant comes with Core Black exterior alongside Black interior only.

The Afeela 1 comes with a standard 4-year / 50,000mi (~80,467km) vehicle warranty. Additionally, there is an extended 8-year / 100,000mi (~160,934km) guarantee for the EV’s high-voltage battery, under which the battery will be replaced should the State of Health (SoH) fall below 75% during the warranty period.

SHM has also provided an 8-year / 100,000mi warranty for Afeela 1's powertrain. The full list of warranty terms and conditions will be released at a later time.

The rollout of Afeela 1 is scheduled to commence in 2026 only.

Like some of Sony's consumer items such as PlayStation gaming consoles or Bravia TVs which can be spotted globally, do not anticipate Afeela EVs to be seen frequently soon. This is because so far, only two markets have been confirmed: California and Japan.

Afeela 1 model for California is expected to be launched in mid-2026, while the Origin model will follow in 2027. Also, the Afeela 1 model is planned for release in Japan in 2026, although the exact timeline was not mentioned in the announcement.

This state-specific requirement to acknowledge residency stands for California residents.

However, Afeela 1 will not be assembled in California itself. SHM stated that it will be assembled at an existing factory in Ohio but declined to mention if Japanese units will be produced at the same factory.

* Charging Time (approx.): Enables up to 100 km of range in 8 minutes with 200 kW charging

The official range of this electric vehicle (EV) has not been announced yet, but SHM said that the Afeela 1 is designed to achieve a maximum of up to 483km of rating range as per the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EV is powered by a 91kWh lithium-ion battery pack and is equipped with the capability to charge at a speed of up to 150kW via DC charging, as well as 11kW via AC charging.

Vehicles in the US will come with a North American Charging System (NACS) charging port adapted from Tesla's technology. It's natural then that the Afeela 1 would be compatible with the Tesla Supercharger network in the United States despite the option to also charge with a Combined Charging System Type 1 (CCS1) charger via an adapter.

Afeela 1 comes with an extremely spacious boot compartment, automatic door handling, air suspension systems

Although it isn't as spacious as others in its class, including Teslas, the Market-exclusive SUV has adequately generous boot space and also not far from a Tesla Model S.

You may not have noticed, but the Afeela 1 electric vehicle does not have a traditional door handle. It has been equipped with automatic doors that can be opened with a digital key stored in a smartphone or a physical NFC keycard.

In addition to its aerodynamic design, Afeela 1 is also fitted with an air suspension system of SHM. It collaborates with the EV's motion management system to provide a comfortable, smooth, and stable driving experience.

Afeela 1 is loaded with visual, audio, and entertainment components

One of the main ideas behind Afeela 1's creation in Malaysia is "Mobility as a Creative Entertainment Space". To bring this concept to life, SMG has incorporated a massive panoramic screen into the electric vehicle's (EV) dashboard, but the exact screen size has yet to be disclosed.

Afeela 1 comes equipped with an infotainment system that supports a mix of streaming services, including Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music, and Stingray Karaoke, with Zoom being one of the confirmed names. You may also play PlayStation 5 games in this 5G-enabled car, although this comes through Remote Play, rather than through a built-in PlayStation 5 console in the vehicle.

In addition to that, there's another screen positioned directly on the EV's front section. Known as the Media Bar, it can display a range of things, such as customized text messages, the battery charging status, information on the weather, traffic updates, and digital emoticons.

Regarding the sound system, SMH did not provide specifics about the number of speakers or power output. However, the company mentioned that Sony's Spatial Sound Technologies have been incorporated into Afeela's sound system, which enables it to support Dolby Atmos and 360 Reality Audio content.

Apart from that, the electric vehicle also comes with an in-cabin active noise-cancelling feature that helps to reduce road noise. SMH has also collaborated with Polyphony Digital, the developer of Gran Tursimo to design several unique in-cabin audio experiences called e-Motor Sound.

SMH claimed that the EV has up to 40 sensors, including cameras, radars, ultrasonics, and LiDARs.

Signature vs Origin: What are the Key Differences?

A glance at the Afeela 1 Signature and Origin models may lead to confusion. One simple way to differentiate between them is to examine their tyre and wheel sizes.

This is because the Signature model has larger front tyres, measuring 245/40R21, and 21-inch rear tyres with the same size, while the Origin variant has tyres measuring 225/55R19 on the front and 245/50R19 on the rear.

One of the significant differences with the Signature model is that it has additional cameras attached to its side mirrors, which provide an extended field of view on the displays inside the car. The rearview mirror on this variant also shows images from a camera.

Additionally, the Signature variant is also equipped with two infotainment screens for the rear passengers.

Lastly, customers who choose the Afeela 1 Signature model will not only have a wider range of colour options available to them, but they will also receive their orders prior to 2027. This is because deliveries of the Afeela 1 Origin will start only in 2027.
