Warisan’s Azis backs Hannah amid opposition outcry over book

PETALING JAYA: Warisan information chief Azis Jamman has voiced his support for DAP's Hannah Yeoh after 182 police reports were filed against her over her book "Becoming Hannah: A Personal Journey".

Azis, who previously represented Sepanggar in Parliament, said that he had read Yeoh's book and was puzzled by the recent criticism from the opposition over its publication, which was first released more than ten years ago.

He claimed to be a sincere Muslim and a friend of the Segambut Member of Parliament, and that she had never attempted to convert him to Christianity.

“From my comprehension after reading the book, I gather that the book does not discuss attempting to convert anyone to Christianity.”

”Actually, I have knowledge that there have been police reports filed against her and the book for several reasons, and to be frank, I am quite perplexed by them.”

“Determining however, I am proud Sabahan, and thankful that, despite our various races and religions, the community of Sabah continues to live in peace, harmony, and have a mutual respect for one another's beliefs and cultures.”

I'd like to show my moral support for her as a friend.

“Andy Yong berdoa supaya dia akan kekal kuat dan menghadapi cabaran yang akan datang,” kata bekas menteri muda itu dalam posting di laman Facebook.

The police have received 182 complaints involving Yeoh, with 59 individuals providing their statements to aid in the investigation.

Parti Bersatu leaders had lodged several complaints against Yeoh, the Youth and Sports Minister, alleging that she was attempting to convert Muslims and turn Malaysia into a Christian country.

This followed the High Court's dismissal of Yeoh's defamation lawsuit against former Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan over a statement he made.

He was alleged to have accused Yeoh of writing her book in a bid to turn Malaysia into a Christian nation, intending to demolish Islam and the country, and prioritising her personal interests over the nation's.
